The Puerto Rican Festival of MA Internship Program (for Junior and Senior high  school students)

The Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts will host a year-long internship program for High school-aged students (Juniors/Seniors) who are interested in working with a community-building/arts and culture organization. This opportunity will allow students to gain non-profit organization work experience.

 

Responsibilities will include: attending Executive Team meetings via Zoom or in person, cultural workshops, volunteering at events, and assisting with special projects. Students will have the opportunity to engage with current Board members, be assigned to a mentor who are professionals in a variety of fields. Students will also have the opportunity to enjoy cultural educational programming.

 

Joining a board as a high school student offers benefits such as: leadership development, networking opportunities, professional experience, community engagement, skill development, resume building, personal growth, learning opportunities, confidence building, and long-term impact on personal and professional development. Additionally, participation in the program can enhance college applications, community service hours and recommendation letters will be provided to support students' applications to colleges or jobs upon completion of the program.

 

Students will complete a capstone project related to one of the following topics:

- Puerto Rican arts and culture 

- Local history

- The importance of festivals & parades

- Representation in politics, etc.

 

Responsibilities:

● Volunteering at PRFMA events held throughout the year

● Attend at least 7 Executive Team meetings

● Attend two-day festival and two additional events Requirements:

● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

● Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions.

1. Social Media intern

Job Description: Assist in creating and scheduling engaging content across various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin). Collaborate with the marketing team to develop social media campaigns that promote festival events and activities. Monitor social media channels for audience engagement, responding to comments and messages in a timely manner. Help gather and curate photos and videos from events to share on social media. Research and analyze social media trends to enhance our online presence. Participate in brainstorming sessions for creative content ideas and promotional strategies. Assist in building the festival's public image by drafting press releases, maintaining media contacts, and promoting events through various channels to increase awareness and attendance. Support the marketing team in reaching out to the community and attracting attendees to the festival.

 

2. Graphic Design Coordinator

Job Description: Support the PRFMA team by designing promotional materials such as posters, flyers, and digital graphics. Collaborate with the design team on various projects, including social media graphics, marketing materials, and presentations. Assist in creating and editing images, logos, and layouts using design software. Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas. Help maintain brand consistency across all designs and materials.Organize and manage digital assets and design files. Support the team with administrative tasks as needed.

 

3. Fundraising and Sponsorship Coordinator

Job Description: Assist in securing sponsorships for the festival and managing relationships with sponsors. Research potential sponsors, drafting sponsorship proposals, and assisting in organizing fundraising events to support the festival’s initiatives. Support the team in tracking donations and maintaining accurate records. Help create promotional materials and presentations for fundraising efforts. Engage with community members and local businesses to build partnerships. Support social media campaigns to promote fundraising events and initiatives.Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new fundraising.

4. Community Outreach Assistant Coordinator

Job Description: Engage with local schools and organizations to promote participation in the festival. Interns will help design outreach materials and coordinate community events leading up to the festival. Reach out to different community groups, organizations, and stakeholders to involve them in the festival. Maintain records of outreach activities and participant engagement. Collaborate with team members to brainstorm new outreach ideas and initiative.

 

5. Cultural Pageant Assistant Coordinator

Job Description: We are looking for a high school student to serve as a Cultural Pageant Assistant Coordinator. This role involves supporting the organization and execution of our school’s cultural pageant, promoting cultural diversity and creativity among peers. Assist in planning and organizing pageant activities and themes. Help coordinate rehearsals and communicate with fellow students and staff. Provide support during events, including setup and logistics. Promote the pageant within the school to boost participation and attendance.

 

6. Event Planning Internship

Job Description: Assist in planning and coordinating various aspects of the festival, such as logistics, vendor management, and scheduling. Help with setting up event spaces, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring smooth operations during the festival. Support the event planning team in executing different tasks related to the event.

 

7. Cultural Exhibits Coordinator

Job Description: Design cultural exhibits that highlight Puerto Rican history, art, and traditions. Research and identify themes and topics relevant to the Puerto Rican community. Recruit cultural groups, and vendors to showcase their work. Collaborate with educational vendors to provide valuable information and resources to the community. Assist with healthfair college fair recruitment. Assist Vendor Director with smooth operation of exhibits during the festival, providing support to exhibitors and attendees.
